Monique Priestley

Representative of Orange-2 District
Vermont House of Representatives

Monique Priestley is serving her second term as a Vermont State Representative (Orange-2), where she works on consumer protection in data privacy, artificial intelligence, right to repair, and the future of work. She has been lead sponsor on Vermont’s comprehensive data privacy legislation, updates to the state’s data broker law, and its Age-Appropriate Design Code, work that has drawn sustained opposition from national technology lobbying and made Vermont a reference point for other states writing similar rules. She serves on the House Committee on Commerce & Economic Development and as Vice Chair of the Joint Information Technology Oversight Committee. Nationally, she co-chairs the Future Caucus National Task Force on AI Policy, sits on the NCSL Task Force on Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity & Privacy, and serves on the Legislative Steering Team of the State AI Policy Forum. She co-chairs Vermont’s Rural Caucus, which received a 2023 Legislative Service Award from the Vermont League of Cities and Towns. Monique has been named EPIC’s National Champion of Freedom, CSG’s Top 20 Under 40, and NFWL’s Elected Woman of Excellence. Before the Legislature she spent twenty years in technology and founded a rural nonprofit community workspace she led for just under a decade.
